Why Do You Need An Apple ID?
By now, you have probably heard of an Apple ID—in fact, chances are you probably have one registered to your email address—but do you know how to use it? Having an Apple ID is a necessity in order to access the many different programs on your Apple devices.
Here are just a few of the reasons why you need your own Apple ID:
iTunes
Most people rely on iTunes to download music, TV shows, movies and more, whether they have an Apple device or not. In order to start downloading all of your favorites, you have to create an Apple ID and link it to iTunes. If you’re on your computer, simply open up iTunes and click on sign in to enter your information. However, if you are accessing iTunes through your iPhone or iPad, then click on the settings app, scroll down to “iTunes and App Store” and enter your Apple ID there. If you don’t have payment information attached to your account, you will be asked to enter it when you go to make your first purchase. Tip, once you complete the registration process, you can choose not to store a credit card on file.
App Store
What’s the point of having a smartphone if you can’t download apps to have fun and socialize with? In order to download apps through the Apple app store, you will need an Apple ID. Connect your Apple ID to the app store the same way you would connect it to iTunes, and then enter your payment information when prompted. Once it’s connected, you can start to download whatever app you’d like—just watch how much you spend!
FaceTime
Many Apple users are unaware that you can FaceTime using your Apple ID as well. If you don’t already have it set up, go to settings on your phone and then scroll down to FaceTime. Click on “Use your Apple ID for FaceTime” and then enter your email address and password. The device will then pull up every email address linked to your Apple ID, so you can choose which one you want to associate with your FaceTime app. Once you’re done, you’re ready to start video chatting with your friends and family, all through your Apple ID.
Schedule an appointment.
Are you having trouble with your Apple device? If you have a warranty, you may want to take your phone into the Genius Bar at Apple to have it fixed. To make an appointment through the Apple website, you will need to enter your ID and password. This will save you time by pulling up all of your information so you don’t have to re-enter it in order to make an appointment. It also will send information to the service technicians about what kind of devices you are using so they can be prepared ahead of time.
